It's been several months since I've written an essay blog, but I felt like doing one today. Since a whole shebang of Democrats have thrown their hats in the ring for the highest seat in the land, I felt like writing a short article about the whole mess. Notably, I want to share my feelings about Barack Obama.
Hillary Clinton is going to knock Barack Obama out of the water. Obama has charisma, sexiness and the allure of being ethnic (which seems to be a qualifier to many leftists). However, there's nothing much to him. He talks about the problems of America, the failings in the war on terror, but does he really have any sort of plan? It seems he's spent more time promoting books that formulating policy, seeming more like the rock star he's described as than any sort of serious candidate.
If you ask an Obama supporter what they like about him, they'll be hardpressed to give anything of substance. Barack Obama is a blank page for which all of his supporters write down what they want him to be. He has "a Kennedy-esque glow," as I read in a YouTube comment in reaction to Obama's announcing of a Presidential exploratory committee. I guess that means he's going to glow us out of the Iraq war and get the Islamists to stop hating us by blinding them with his radiant light. Go, Barack!
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is a Clinton. Obama should know that he's going up against the wife of a man who managed to come out of nowhere in 1992 in order to secure an election against a president who only a year before had had a 90% approval rating. Clinton has been calculated (though not that calm) over the last few years, playing this thing like a pro. Unlike the last two senators to run for president, Hillary Clinton knows how to speak like a normal person and will not be boring us with legalize.
This isn't an endorsement of Hillary. I lean pretty conservative, being liberal on only a handful of issues like capital punishment and more moderate on abortion. Rudy Giuliani look really good, as does Mitt Romney. From this early stage in the game, however, my bets are that Barack will not make it to November 2008.
