The Wall Street Journal has a piece on the future of shopping for music, which apparently includes
an end to serendity. Tower Records has filed for bankruptcy again while online companies continue to flourish.
Most notable in the article was this prediction:
• No matter what happens to Tower, record stores will be around for some time to come. (So will bookstores and newsstands.)
• Nevertheless, most people under 50 will eventually be downloading most of their recorded-music purchases instead of going to a store to buy them in the form of compact discs.
• Once that happens, brick-and-mortar record stores will become as rare as typewriter repair shops.
